editing

I have been getting on with one of those ‘get round to’ jobs that sometimes gets thought about.  I have on cd the BBC Radio Collection of all five serieseseseses of Douglas Adams The Hitch Hicker’s Guide To The Galaxy.  As much as I enjoy this particular dramatisation I do get fed up of the opening and closing music/credits every half hour and as the whole series involves 26 episodes, after hearing the lovely Peter Jones say ‘You have been listening to ….” half a dozen time you get sick of it.  So I uploaded the cd’s into iTunes [only because it has the handy ‘join tracks’ function’] and using GarageBand have now gone through each track editing out the title music and the closing credits and music … thus I now have five tracks, each containing the complete series without interruption.

Now my editing skillz are reasonable but by no means is the finished result seamless, and I don’t mind that, I can now load them to the iPad and as it will remember my place, I can enjoy the series in its whole.  There was of course the usual hiccup where the Quandary Phase got marked as the Quintessential Phase and vice versa but this has now been rectified.

So remember folks the answer to the meaning of life, the universe and everything is ……………. 42 …………… and as the dolphins left they did leave a note thanking us for all the fish … not forgetting that the Earth was a 10 million light year experiment being run by the white mice [shame the Vogon Constructor Fleet came and destroyed everything a few seconds too early].

Don’t Panic!!!

Not a great deal else happening ….. no great projects begun or finished, just filing each day with something, trying to organise Christmas and avoid Halloween.  An old school friend came a visited mea couple of weeks back, we ad not seen each other since leaving High School years ago and she remarked how ‘tidy’ my house was .. of course I denied it and scanned mentally listing the things that needed tidying or putting away or just generally dealing with, lol.  It was fab to catch up and we plan to do so again one day soon.  Her daughter is making cross-stitch decorations for general sale, lovely little things.

Don’t be too impressed … it comes with a cost, the dishes aren’t done, nor the laundry, nor the grocery shop, I haven’t washed my hair or cleaned the bathroom, I haven’t done the bedroom. I told myself I would be more entertained doing these chores listening to the uninterrupted HHG … I lied …. why do I fall for my own lies???

I did remember the clocks though 😉 xx

Excellent project! Well done. I know what you mean about all the irritating stuff in-between … I switch off the sound when the ads come on the tv 😉

Hub, by the way, was the 42nd vicar of one parish we were in … so is he the answer to everything?? I wish!! :))

My next editing project are the two 3 hour videos of the animated Terry Pratchett progs that were done late late 90’s or early early 00’s Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music. I videoed them from Channel 4, they each have six 30 minute episodes with a mid way add break too.

It’s probably not worth worrying about but I’m guessing you’re in breach of copyright. I find opening/closing credits iritating too.

You are correct InkMonkey, I probably am in breach of copyright laws. Seeing as technically if you buy a cd and upload it to your personal computer, you are in breach, if you place those uploaded tracks onto an mp3 player, you are in breach – these seem ridiculous as they are for personal use of the purchaser of the original cds. But as I am not giving, gifting or selling the finished articles, I receive no gain [other than time and enjoyment] or reward for doing so, I ain’t fussed.

The law is an ass, indeed sometimes.

My guess is the manufacturers would argue that you could legally sell your original CD and keep the copy you made. I ain’t fussed either.
