I’m Award Winning

Last weekend was the National Conference for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, these are the peeps that operate TalkMD the forum of the site where I, along with two other people are moderators.  We have been answering posts, devising light hearted threads, supporting the bewildered and zapping spammers for a little over a year.  Our ‘boss’ informed us that he was going to collectively nominate us for the President’s Award for Volunteer of the Year, at the time I enjoyed the gesture but thought no more about it.

This was the first year the conference was ‘live streamed’, so those of us who could not attend were at least able to watch and hear the speakers. the afternoon workshops and then the awards ceremony.  I must admit when Sue Barker [she of tennis and Question of Sport fame] started to introduce this years recipients it did sound rather good, you never realise the quality, necessity or value of your work until an outsider describes it.  And it was rather tear moving and proud making to hear her announce my name!

Of course I do not think I am worthy, after all it is not like I abseiled down a building or parachute jumped or stood out on a rainy Saturday afternoon trying not to rattle too loudly the collecting tin; this is an easy job, just sit in my cosy home, no worries over transport parking or toilet facilities, I can do it in my pj’s anytime that suits me for a few hours a week.  It is far from difficult.
That being said, I am a little proud of myself and appreciative of the recognition

Well done you – the ‘live streaming’ reminded me of radio schooling in the Australian outback …………

BRAVA!! BRAVA!! BRAVA!! I am not the least bit surprised you were nominate or won. You my Dear, are not a half-assed person. Your heart and soul threads it’s way into all your endeavors. If I had to choice of a partner in crime you would be at the top of the list. Physical ability counts for little if there is not a brain to lead the way. Heroics and accomplishments come in all different forms. SHINE ON!!
