Menopausal Mother Nature

05 May
spring

I don’t like speaking cruelly of one’s elders, especially this particular elder but dearest Mother Nature, come on!!  It is the fifth of May and I sit here not contemplating whether to turn the heating off but up

We’ve heard of the phrase “April showers bring May flowers”  but really, what does May’s Monsoon do for June? [Other than piss her off].  I am fed up being dressed in the same old same old, with the lies from my window mocking me – you know the kind of thing, you look out the window to a blue sky, glorious sunshine caressing the abundant greenery of the grass, bushes, hedges and plant foliage, birds twitering and tweeting a happy june, you open your front door and the arctic cold breeze blast freezes you to the core – I am clad in sports socks, trousers, medium weight woolly jumper and cardigan and I can still feel the urge to shivver.

While the brightness of the days does energise the mind with occasional flurries of productive activity, the temperatures do little to coax me out from beneath my cosy duvet of a morn.

I changed from one set of clothes into heavier ones. Yup, I think our heating is about to be switched on. It should have been done sooner.

I have turned off the heater in the bedroom, but have been toasting myself with the electric blanket while in bed reading my book.

Big change of temperature when we were up in the north – bitterly cold winds up there. Down here in Devon it’s still windy but not as cold. Although the first thing I did when we arrived home was turn on the heating!

Usually by now, the heating is off, I use the convector for an hour in the morning and the sun does the rest for the day [west facing windows] .. but not these past few years.

We were tricked by that week of warm weather back in April. I have hardly stirred from my house today (except to buy some food) and the fire and heating is on. It’s just not fair to look out and see blue skies and sunshine when it’s so cold and windy. And it makes me feel tired too 😦

Our weather system is complete trickery – like you, the weather out my window looks a barmy upper 60ºF but could in truth range from 32º-102ºF!!
