Tasted better before I made it.

Ever have one of those mouth watering moments where you are wondering what you can make with the bog standard usual ingredients already in the cupboard/fridge that isn’t the bog standard usual you always seem to have.  Well I had a sort of something like that, I dived into the idea of some tasty fajitas, beefy strips cooked in the seasoning, with a few mushrooms for flair, all wrapped up in a tortilla with a throw of lettuce as ‘greens’ option.  Hmmmm, just one problem bog standard cupboard does not stock tortillas, no problem, I will get some and create this culinary taste heaven.

The delivery came, the ingredients were prepared, all systems were go, the meat fried with the stir in sauce, the tortillas warmed in the micro, the spoon was ready to dish up.   Oh yes, my gastric juices were flowing, I was anticipating the deliscious satisfying pride of a good eal devoured.

I didn’t ….. After wrapping and re-wrapping the wraps in doing so the juices slowly seeping down my finger.  I took a mouthful and okay it had the expected the flavours, it was mediocre but not the “ohh ohh ohh hmmmm Mmmmmm orgasmic agggggg” Homer Simpson style euphoria that my mind envisaged.  My taste buds were left feeling deflated and unsatisfied and instead turned their attention to a few cravings.

Now me and my cravings can and often do transcend into the not so straight forward.  Here has been this weeks

  • Pork Pies, with brown sauce or branston pickle
  • Lettuce with tomatoes drizzled with extra virgin olive oil
  • Lettuce sandwiches
  • Chip Shop Fish with tartar sauce and lemon juice
  • Aero minty bubbles
  • Raw Peanuts [are these get able or to be fit for human consumption do they have to be roasted and coated with salt]
  • Wine Gums
  • Corn on the cob
  • Pork Scratchins
  • Green beans, cabbage and gravy

I am having another go tonight, chicken in smoky barbecue sauce fajitas, because I have tortillas left to use – wish it was a Turkish feast pizza from round the corner instead.

Raw peanuts as nature intended? I buy mine from a health food shop. A craving for cabbage and gravy? Lol, that’s almost obscene. 🙂

LOL – yes who really ever craves vegetables and gravy! I have often remarked to the family if I ever crave chocolate, sweets or ice-cream get me to the Doc’s.

Yes, peanuts eau naturel – so hard to find, yet you can get them buy the bucket to feed the birds with. We are off into town next week, I might just have to mortgage myself at the Health Food place and get some.

I had to google almost every one of your cravings.

*I kind of knew what a Pork pie is; (Doesn’t the mum of a famous singing group always carry one around in a her purse?)

Yes she does 🙂 I believe her preferred brand is Pork Farms, lol. Utoh my anorak is showing!

I don’t know if that phrase is known over there, it is where someone is highly knowledgeable to the point of boredom on particular subject. The pedantic for detail on a subject [I am thinking words list here ;)] is rivet counter.

Sooo glad you’re back on the cyber world … I missed you (((hugs)))

I can never wrap a wrap properly, all the bloody filling falls out onto my lap and I am always wearing something white or easy to stain so I steer clear of them. I do quite fancy the aero bubbles now though.

First I tried right side over, bottom up and left side over, put on plate fold side down. That sort of didn’t quite work. So I switched to right side over, left side over bottom up lay on late fold side down .. that was marginally better.

It is a guaranteed definite that something will spill when wearing a fredhly laundered white item!

I have taken to putting one whole wrap open in the bottom of a dry frying pan, covering in filling, except at the edges, topping with cheese then putting another wrap on top and pushing down, a gentle heat melts the cheese and they stick together. Then i just remove from pan and slice into 4 – not quite wraps but delicious all the same 😀
